2019 is the 30th anniversary of CRC. The National Human Rights Museum commissioned Flip Flops Theatre to produce a children's play I Promised I Wouldn’t Cry, which was performed in the Jingmei White Terror Memorial Park Auditorium from November 15th to 17th.

I promised I Wouldn’t Cry is based on the true story of former White Terror Victim Fred Chin. There are no lines in the performance, the actors have their unique skills: vocal mimicry, balloons, light and shadow, puppetry, and bubbles. The four large puppets have their characteristics and symbolic significance. The huge and bleak Dragon King represents those in power during authoritarian regime, while the Death, the black god with gloomy eyes symbolizes the desire for death in despair.

Director Wu Yizhen abandoned the traditional proscenium-arch Stage and used childlike and warm interactive display techniques by shortening the distance between the actors and the audience to interpret the sadness of forced separation during white horror and created a new human rights children's play.
