The Bagua Building is the form of a cross, with the first and second floors divided into eight areas. The majority of the prisoners were incarcerated on the first floor the second floor was mostly reserved for special prisoners, who were generally forbidden to talk to other prisoners. A few of them communicated with first-floor prisoners at night, however, by lowering notes, cigarettes, etc. tied to threads unraveled from black socks.
