New Life Correction Center Canteen Site
The canteen was built of coral stone. Transactions could be made here only using special coupons, in addition to selling daily necessities, it had a laundry and photo shop. It brought a modicum freedom and convenience to the constricted lives of the political prisoners. The coupons were bought with money sent by relatives or procured by making shell pictures; some were given to fellow prisoners who had no relatives to help them, and prisoners were sometimes fined for doing this. Even in such straitened circumstances, they did not forget to help each other.
