Entering a “New Life”following reform
The main doorway to New Life House was the entrance to the New Life Correction Center for inmates, and also the gateway used when they went out on jobs, or to work, under monitoring. On one side of the doorway was a surveillance pillbox, on the other an orderly room, where a careful watch was kept on the prisoners' every move. The name "New Life" avoided the negative connotations of jail" and signified the beginning of a new life When an inmate's sentence was up he left through another exit, called Revolution Gate.
