Prisoners exiting the Gate of Revolutionbecame "revolutionaries."
Revolution Gate was one of the doorways through which the inmates passed on official business or to do labor. The name signified that when the inmates left the prison after undergoing thought reform, they could engage in the work of revolution. The surveillance pillbox on one side of the gate and the orderly room on the other were sights seen by visitors and by photographers who came to take propaganda photos. Prisoners who joined in the picture-taking did so with high spirits and a smile to let their kinfolk know that they were doing well. The present "Revolution Gate" was rebuilt near the original location in 2008 due to highway construction.
