The living area covers approximately 127 pings and is located near the western boundary of the Ankang Reception House, adjacent to the work area to the east. It served as a temporary residence for investigators while they were handling cases. The building features an L-shaped layout and includes a dining room, kitchen, eight suites, and a recreation room.
The rooms in the living area offered a superior environment, equipped with full private bathrooms, excellent ventilation, and ample natural light, along with window-type air vents.
The Ankang Reception House employed dedicated chefs who prepared daily meals in the living area kitchen for management personnel, investigators, and detainees. During active investigations, in addition to breakfast, lunch, and dinner, late-night snacks were also provided to investigators during overnight interrogations.
Management personnel and investigators could dine in the living area's dining room. However, during active interrogation proceedings, prepared meals were delivered directly to the work area, where investigators and suspects mostly ate within the interrogation rooms. At times, investigators would use delicious food as a psychological tool to assist in the interrogation, encourage suspects to "cooperate and confess."
